GSQ Goodyear Restaurants and Events to Know Right Now

Four years ago, if a friend asked where to meet for dinner in Goodyear, the honest answer usually involved a strip center off Estrella Parkway and a fifteen-minute debate about who was driving. That conversation has changed. Goodyear Civic Square at GSQ, the 150-acre downtown project on McDowell Road between PebbleCreek Parkway and Bullard Avenue, has finally hit the stretch where the ribbon cuttings outpace the construction fencing. Between November 2025 and the end of 2026, the district will have added a grocer, a sushi conveyor, a Brazilian steakhouse, a fast-casual Mediterranean, a coffee drive-thru, a bakery, and a Pilates studio, on top of the Shake Shack, Stillery, First Watch, and Harkins Estrella Falls already anchoring the square.
The thesis, if you live here, is this: GSQ has quietly stopped being a promise about the future of downtown Goodyear and started being the answer to "what are we doing Thursday night." That shift is worth walking through in order, because the pace of arrivals means the version of GSQ you knew in March is not the version open now, and the version open now is not the version you'll be showing your in-laws in December.
The first wave has been the quiet one. Trader Joe's opened at the square in November 2025. First Watch followed on January 26, 2026, taking a 3,700 square foot corner at 1670 N. Bullard Avenue with a covered patio, an interior bar, and seating for more than 160 people. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar arrived in March, the chain's fourth Valley location alongside its Chandler, North Scottsdale, and Glendale stores.
Add those to what was already here, and the current lineup around the two-acre Civic Square park looks like this:

That last one, Dave's Hot Chicken, is technically its own Goodyear location rather than a GSQ tenant, but it belongs in any honest map of what has landed nearby this year.
The second wave is the one that will change the character of the square from "convenient" to "destination." A few standouts to actually put on your calendar:
Fogo de Chão is bringing its second Valley location to the southwest corner of Goodyear Way and Bullard Avenue in 2026. If you have been driving to Scottsdale for the churrasco experience, that trip is about to get much shorter.
CAVA is opening its GSQ location this year, joining the Mediterranean fast-casual footprint the East Valley has had for a while.
California Fish Grill is planning a 2026 opening at the northwest corner of Bullard Avenue and McDowell Road. It will be the third California Fish Grill in Arizona and the first on the west side of the Valley, which matters if you have been ordering the citrus-fired salmon and driving it home from Chandler.
Black Rock Coffee Bar is putting a 1,460 square foot store with a drive-thru into the square in 2026. The Oregon-founded chain already has dozens of Valley locations, so this is less of a novelty than a convenience upgrade for the McDowell commute.
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is already spinning, but if you have not been yet, go on a Tuesday. Weekends are a wait.
Paris Baguette and Zara Nail Bar will each occupy roughly 3,000 square feet, both expected to open by the end of 2026. Reformed Pilates, Berry Divine Acai Bowls (targeting a fall 2026 opening on the Civic Square side, the chain's 11th location), and a restaurant called Magdalena's round out the recent lease announcements.
One more that is not food: VEG, short for Veterinary Emergency Group, is opening a 24-hour emergency animal hospital at GSQ in 2026. If you have ever driven to the far east side of the Valley at 11 p.m. with a sick dog, you understand why this is a big deal.
Then a look ahead: Handel's Ice Cream is slated for early 2027, an approximately 1,800 square foot shop with a patio designed as a neighborhood gathering space. Nordstrom Rack follows in spring 2027. Firebirds Wood Fired Grill joins the mix as a 5,658 square foot standalone building, giving the West Valley a fifth Firebirds after Chandler, Gilbert, Peoria, and Surprise.
The buildings are the easy part to notice. The programming is where the district earns the word "downtown." A short list of what the city's parks and recreation department has on the books between now and year end:
The park is two acres. That is small enough that any of these events feels full at 500 people and electric at 2,000. Bring a blanket earlier than you think you need to.
You cannot write about Goodyear right now without addressing the 74,000 square foot beaver in the room. Buc-ee's opened its first Arizona location on June 22, 2026, near I-10 and Bullard Avenue. The city planned for the crowd and got the crowd: 41,000 customers rolled through on opening day, funneled along a designated 6.5 mile travel route that looped down Bullard, around the Goodyear Ballpark area, and back to the parking lot. Governor Katie Hobbs cut the ribbon at 8 a.m. The store has 120 fueling positions.
Two practical points for people who live here:
First, opening week traffic has settled but has not gone away, and it likely will not for a while. If you are heading to GSQ from Buc-ee's, the city's suggested route is to take I-10 east, exit at Litchfield Road, go north to McDowell, and turn west. You will pass Trader Joe's and the restaurant cluster on your right after Bullard.
Second, and this is the part the coverage buried: Buc-ee's has effectively turned Bullard Avenue into a stop on the way through the West Valley for everyone driving between Phoenix and California. A meaningful share of those drivers will now discover that GSQ exists three minutes north of the pumps. That is a lot of accidental foot traffic for a downtown that was banking on organic discovery.
Here is what none of the openings press releases tell you, and it is the reason to bother with any of this. A weeknight in Goodyear now looks like: park once at the Civic Square garage, which is open to the public evenings and weekends, walk to Kura for early dinner before the wait builds, walk across the park to a movie at Harkins Estrella Falls, and finish with a cocktail at The Stillery. Total driving: zero. Total distance covered on foot: less than a quarter mile.
That itinerary did not exist eighteen months ago. It exists now. By December, you will be able to swap in Fogo de Chão or CAVA for Kura, add a Black Rock coffee on the way in, and finish with a Berry Divine bowl on the way home. By spring 2027, you will be shopping Nordstrom Rack between the restaurant and the theater.
The city has been talking about a walkable downtown since 1984, when it first bought the 40 acres at Bullard and I-10. Committees convened in 1985, 1987, 2001, and 2004 to shape what residents wanted. That is a 40 year runway. The runway ended sometime this spring, and most people who live here have not fully noticed yet.
